Westmalle Dubbel

Woah. Trappist beer. Westmalle is one of seven Trappist breweries in the world.
It was quite good alongside a simple Cauliflower salad with vinaigrette and dried chile.

graphic: Golden chestnut color, foamy, light brown head, with irregular bubbles.

feel: not as carbonated as most dubbels, coats the mouth, but not cloyingly so

smell: green apples and grapes on the nose, malty overtones with cinnamon and cardamom

taste: some of the fresh fruitiness remains and pleasantly cuts through the burnt smokey caramel and dried fruit that dominate the palate. Long pleasantly dry finish.

The Rack

There is a shelf in my flat cluttered with bottles.

They are the shells of wine and beer par excellence. Memories of drinks with fun, or tricky, or intricate, or bold, even sometimes strange but always pleasing tastes. Sometimes they went well with dinner, sometimes not. It's a hard thing to pair food you've never made with a drink you've never tried.

It's always new. We tend not to repeat much in the way of tasting beer and wine, or even restaurants. There is so much out there to taste.
